What uses allowance
Plans use a message allowance. A question that reaches AI answering uses one message. A supported location follow-up for that question uses the same message.
How usage is measured
Check Usage for remaining messages and the reset date. Recording length, answer length and retained context can change processing work without changing the message allowance.
The allowance is a product usage measure. It is not money held in a personal OpenAI account, and it is not a balance from a ChatGPT subscription. Your plan’s checkout terms determine what is included.
Avoid unnecessary processing
Use Stop when your question is complete, ask one clear question, and reset irrelevant context to avoid unnecessary processing. Use Retry when the app has kept a question instead of immediately recording duplicates.
Some failed requests may already have reached the provider and used resources. Cancelling or closing the app cannot guarantee that usage will be reversed. Reopening, reinstalling and resetting conversation do not reset the service-side allowance.
